Rainbow Roll Table - a GLoGMas gift for DeusExParabola/As-they-must
Roll 1d6 to either choose which table to use or how many to use. Or don’t roll and just use all of them. See what fun happens!
See End Notes for answers to some of the questions.
Table 0 - You Got Cursed!
| Roll | Name | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Extra-Cursed! | Roll twice on the Curses table, ignoring any results of 0 or 7. You suffer both results! |
| 1 | Weak | Reduced strength and endurance |
| 2 | Ugly | Reduced charisma |
| 3 | Slow | Reduced dexterity and agility, reduced initiative |
| 4 | Fool | Reduced intelligence and wisdom |
| 5 | Senseless | One of the senses that you have has been reduced in effectiveness. |
| 6 | Unlucky | -1 to all rolls |
| 7 | It backfired! | Flip a coin! Heads: Roll on the curse table again, ignoring this option, and give the opposite result. All reduced options become improved, and Unlucky is now Lucky - giving +1 to all rolls! Tails: Nothing happens! |
Table 1 - What did you find at the end of the Rainbow?
| Roll | Name | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Foal’s Gold | At the end of the rainbow it’s a baby unicorn’s chamber pot, filled with golden colored nuggets of magic horse manure. At least it doesn’t smell. …Much. |
| 1 | Nothing | Sucks to be you. |
| 2 | Pease Porridge | Fema |
| 3 | Stone Soup | Fema |
| 4 | Another Rainbow! | Roll again, to see what’s at the end of the new rainbow! |
| 5 | A Helmet | When you wear this helmet, it grants you +1 magic armor, otherwise as Plate Mail, made from a cascade of golden coins falling out and disappearing when they hit the ground. It also makes it very difficult for most people to see, since there’s now a [cauldron that got roughly reforged into a helmet] covering their eyes and most if not all of their head. |
| 6 | A pot of gold! | The expected thing to find, really. |
| 7 | Cauldron of Plenty | One of the four great treasures of Ireland. However did it end up here? Multiplies food, can be used to resurrect people as skeletons IIRC. |
Table 2 - What sort of a rainbow is it?
| Roll | Name | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | An Antirainbow | Better hope it doesn’t intersect with a rainbow, that tends to cause extremely large explosions. |
| 1 | A hallucination | You may be going insane. -1 to a mental stat of your choice. |
| 2 | A Bow (the hair decoration) | It fell off a Storm Titan’s head, they’ll be looking for it. |
| 3 | Standard | Refraction of light across water. |
| 4 | A Test of the Grand Prism | Bonus from the Association if you write up a report about it which they can cite! |
| 5 | A crack in the sky | I wonder what’s on the other side. |
| 6 | The Bifrost | Rainbow Bridge to Valhalla |
| 7 | A revelation about the divine. | Gain the ability to sense holy magic. |
Table 3 - Who/What made the rainbow?
| Roll | Name | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | A Foe! | Roll on someone else’s random encounter table. |
| 1 | Grugg | Turns out, if you hit a Fluxian hard enough it explodes into rainbows. Nobody’s ever been stupid or at least unsupervised enough to do so, though, since it explodes into Instant Death if you don’t hit it hard enough. Grugg didn’t know that, though, so now there’s a new discovery! |
| 2 | Leprechaun | The classic! |
| 3 | A Unicorn | Unicorns fart rainbows, didn’t you know? |
| 4 | Robain the Hooded | Seeking to support the impoverished people in community by purloining treasures from those who seek the rainbow’s end. Has a Rain Bow*. |
| 5 | Rainbow Dash | Surprise, now there’s a crossover with MLP! |
| 6 | DeusExParabola | The God from the Rainbow, hoping that this time the rainbow spontaneously creates another rainbow god. |
| 7 | A Conjunction of the Spheres. | Quick, go do some Alchemy or Magical Rituals or stuff! This sort of cosmic event only happens like every thousand years or so. |
*Rain Bow A +1 Magic Bow. Arrows loosed from it leave a rainbow trail and cause a small downpour where they land.
Table 4 - Where did the rainbow lead?
| Roll | Name | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Off the edge of a cliff! | Roll an insight/perception check to see if you notice the peril in time to stop following it. If you fail, you get an athletics check at disadvantage to see if you can catch the edge before falling. |
| 1 | A Burrow | It seems to be empty for now, you might want to leave before whoever or whatever lives here gets back and finds intruders. |
| 2 | A cave-in | The path is blocked, you’ll probably have to take extra time to maneuver past or around it. |
| 3 | A laboratory | Fema |
| 4 | A settlement | This growing settlement is looking for brave and strong newcomers, and those with the skills needed to support the village. Also, they’re somewhat short on water - nobody seems willing to explain exactly why, though they assure you it won’t become a major problem any time soon, but it’s worth noting. They are sure to have many tasks to complete. |
| 5 | A font of pure water | Clear as the purest of glass or diamond, still as the ice or rushing as the river, sweet to the taste (though nothing pollutes it) or with the trace minerals needed for industry, this water is exactly what is needed for the local settlement, and they will reward you handsomely - though perhaps greater rewards could be obtained by looking further afield or by waiting until they are desperate. |
| 6 | Over the river and through the woods, to Grandmother’s House. | If there weren’t previously a river or woods, congrats! Now there are! Have fun with the addition to local physics/water tables/weather/geohistory/reality. Oh, and you have another grandmother now/one of the ones you already had lives here now. |
| 7 | Bob’s house | Bob is very pleased to meet you, offering a week’s rations, spare weaponry, and the use of the house to rest for the night. |
Table 5 - What is the meaning of this rainbow?
| Roll | Name | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Bad luck. | -1 to morale checks. |
| 1 | Words are to be forsaken, solve problems with violence. | -1 to diplomacy and verbal intimidation (includes sign language), +1 to attack and damage rolls. |
| 2 | Fool | Fema |
| 3 | Difficult times are ahead, but if you persevere you shall thrive and prosper once they have passed. | Though you are penalized -2 to all stats for some time (a couple sessions?), you gain permanent +1s to half your stats and +1 to all your skills afterwards. |
| 4 | It’s time to d-d-d-d-d duel!! | Card Games have sprung up around the realm!! Sometimes they passively boost you or your friends/adventuring party/temporary allies of convenience if you collect them, other times you can use them to summon creatures or items or spells. Sometimes they’re just cards, and sometimes they have useful lore! Who knows what it’s gonna be this time? |
| 5 | Rufus the Light-Forger is in one of his creative moods again. | Discount Sale on Laser Blasters! Downside: They usually only last for a few shots. Also, if you’re an aesthetics person, it might be annoying that they’re rainbow colored. One style cycles through the colors of the rainbow, the other is just all the colors at once. |
| 6 | Unlucky | Fema |
| 7 | The Skymother weeps for thee. | Mom is here for you, don’t worry. Once, when you would otherwise die, you’ll feel her embrace and be healed back to your healthiest capacity - which includes getting rid of exhaustion, any unwanted mental traumas, curses, any drained stat points, and so forth. |
Table 6 - Who else was searching for the treasure?
| Roll | Name | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | An Outsider | lol, have fun trying to not dribble your brain out your ears when you look at this thing and the set of warped physics it brings along. |
| 1 | A brain worm | Run away!! You don’t want to get infested by one of these! |
| 2 | Leprechaun | The classic! They’ve got to get to their treasure before some unruly adventurer like you takes it! |
| 3 | The Renowned Treasure Hunter, [StateName] Danger Jones II | Gotta find that ancient ruin! |
| 4 | Leaper, of the reclusive giant rabbitfolk. | Friendly sort, just don’t show him your lucky rabbit’s foot. It won’t amuse. |
| 5 | Arcano-biome Field Intern | Offers to pay you [Significant Sum], 1/3 now and the rest in installments as you report back, if you’ll go find more rainbows in their stead. |
| 6 | DeusExParabola | The God from the Rainbow, checking to see if the rainbow pantheon has expanded again. |
| 7 | The Truthspeaker | Questions three, they’ll answer true, yet only those which are heartfelt. |
Table 7 - What fortune did you encounter?
| Roll | Name | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | None, but at least it wasn’t a curse! | Nothing happens. |
| 1 | Fair-weather Fortune | Critical rolls are twice as effective, but it goes away as soon as you roll a critical fail (Notably, this counts even if you had advantage and rolled a better roll, or if someone switches out your roll for a better result - If someone swaps out their roll to artificially cause yours to be a critical fail, however, you don’t lose your luck!) |
| 2 | Forage Fortune | +2 to rolls involving searching for resources, or collecting resources you’ve found. |
| 3 | Diplomance Fortune | +2 to Diplomacy checks/Reaction rolls. |
| 4 | Battle Fortune | +2 to rolls during combat. |
| 5 | Weather Fortune | Weather events are the most favorable option for you, except for Rainbow Table Rolls - they gain a +1 to the result. |
| 6 | Ooo, Favored by the Gods! | You won’t be smote by gods the first time you break their laws/commandments. This is a once-off, though if you defile a temple to multiple gods, it’s counted as one offense. |
| 7 | You gain access to a Magic! | Redfire, an elemental conjuration that is miraculously compatible with any species or class - even those which shouldn’t be able to use it. How? It is said that only the gods may know, and even they are uncertain. Deals flame damage, unless that would be nullified, in which case it inflicts ??? |
End Notes: How much are the stats reduced by? Up to you!
How does Redfire work? Is It a spell? Do you get an MD?
How long do these last? Also up to you!
